Snow Patrol end the UK leg of the current Fallen Empires tour this week with shows in Sheffield, Bournemouth and three nights at the O2 Arena in London this weekend.
Bournemouth and the first two O2 arena shows are all completely sold out, with a limited amount of tickets left available for tonight’s show at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield and Sunday night’s show at the O2 in London. Ticket details for those two shows are available here.
To celebrate the end of the UK tour we have a few more pairs of tickets left to give away this week. First up with have virtually the last pair of tickets in Bournemouth ready to give away to a fan who can complete the Snow Patrol lyric below:
"And in one little moment, It all Implodes...."
To win simply complete the line and post it to us on either facebook.com/SnowPatrol, tweet it to us at @snowpatrolBand with the hash tag #spComp or email us at competition@snowpatrol.com. We will then randomly choose a winner and inform them on Wednesday 8th February between 9am and 11am, so keep an eye on your DM’s and Inbox’s.
So the tour is a few weeks old and the shows have been great. Every crowd so far has been excellent and we’ve had a ball. Last night in Birmingham was a superb and joyous occasion. Hearing some people couldn’t make it because of the weather is sad though. We of course can’t legislate for freak snow falls. Some folk on the message boards have been rather vocal about suggesting that we were insensitive to have played the show at all given the weather conditions.
Firstly WE were there. Fit, healthy and raring to go. And if that is ever the case we will never cancel a show (to be honest there have been many ocassions when we’re not any of those things and the show happens anyway….). Also 13 thousand plus paying fans made it to the show snow or not and we wouldn’t want to let them down plus there is no way our insurance would cover us pulling a gig if most of the ticket holders are in the building even if we wanted to, which we didn’t.
I once lost my voice due the polyps on the vocal chords in the middle of a US tour (2006ish) and we had to cancel (at the time, although we did reschedule the dates six months later) the rest of the tour while I recovered. I remember the feeling of helplessness and shame I was clothed in at the time. The thought of letting people down burns me like a hot blade. I vowed then to always take good care of my throat and voice on tour so as to never cancel another show. So the cries from some folk last night and this morning that we should have cancelled/postponed the gig rather than do it is very confusing to me. I hope you’ll realise that if our legs and arms are attached and I can raise my voice than we’ll do the show no matter what.
Now if the numbers were reversed and thousands of people couldn’t make it and only hundreds could then it could be argued that the show should be moved to a different date. I’m not exactly a trekkie but the old Vulcan proverb fits nicely here “the needs of the many outway the needs of the few”. Hope you understand that we needed to think about the 13 thousand people plus IN the building not the several hundred that couldn’t make it. This won’t help right now as you’ll be pissed off you missed the show but when the anger passes maybe it will. If it still doesn’t I really don’t know what to say other than I hope you’ll come see us again sometime and if you won’t then good luck to you. Love, luck and happiness always. gL.x

"We are listening….. "??

Over the next week we will be giving away tickets to Snow Patrol’s 2012 tour that kicked off last week in Dublin.
Yesterday we gave away a pair for tonight's show at the SECC in Glasgow and today we have a pair of tickets for Monday night's sold out show at the AECC in Aberdeen.
Like yesterday to win the tickets and as a nod to the Fallen Empires cover star, all we want you to do is take a photo of yourself and a friend (if you wish) in front of your local eagle (open to interpretation) in either Aberdeen or the surrounding towns/area/cities.
Then simply post the photo on facebook.com/SnowPatrol, twitpic it to us at @snowpatrolBand or email us at competition@snowpatrol.com. We will then choose our favourite and inform the winner on Sunday 29th January, so keep an eye on your DM’s and Inbox’s.
The competition will follow the band around the UK over the next week, so if you not near to Aberdeen don’t worry as you may get a chance when the tour heads to a town near you.

So back in Norn Iron we find ourselves once more. It always fills me with equal measures of excitement and apprehension. Excited about the gigs (which are always outstanding) and apprehensive because of the collection of blagards, rogues and scoundrels we have come to know and love that all seem to want to lead us up the path of destruction to an early grave. It’s safe to say the party is well and truly underway.
World tour has kicked off in style. Dublin at the weekend, Belfast for the next few days and Glasgow to follow. I know it’s a marathon and not a sprint but the inhabitants of all these cities don’t seem to know or care. So you have to pick your battles carefully and hope the hangovers aren’t too bad. Not getting any younger so you’ve got to give yourself a fighting chance.
Jimmy “Show bizz” Symington showed up with his wee lad for the sound check today who of course had to have a go on the drums. This is a common enough occurrence and always fun. There’s no such thing as a three year old boy who doesn’t want to bang the crap out of a drum kit and make lots of noise. Maybe it’ll send him down a path of sorts. If it does, then I apologise to his Mum now.
Speaking of bashing the crap out of drums I myself get to be involved with the gig too. In the song Fallen Empire I get to bang the hell out of the Gong Drum during the show. I can’t even begin to describe the tremendous satisfaction it gives when you wallop this thing and every one in earshot ducks for cover. Sounds like a canon going off. So I’d better not make a balls of it or I’ll be kicked off the stage. I also have to be on the lookout for flying gaffer tape balls from the rest of the roadies,(especially Coatesy) trying to put me off. They’re an unforgiving bunch who will relentlessly take the piss out of me if I mess up. No prisoners at all.
Our crew are the best and everybody says so, but you gotta be hard skinned around us. If you can’t take a good ribbing you may as well go home.
If you’ve yet to see the show prepare to be blown away, Davey (lighting director) has outdone himself on this one and it’s looks unbelievable. We also got Rocco (U2/Madonna/Journey) stage managing and Ash (Iron Maiden/Motorhead) on the gig too, so there are plenty of war stories to be entertained with. None are repeatable here unfortunately.
It’s great to be back at work and it’s great to be back in Belfast. Noisey bunch they are here and always in the mood for a sing along. Obviously it’s a special one for the boys in the band too being home and all that. Family in attendance etc. The guest list in Dublin, here and Glasgow is always jammed with family and friends. Not a job you could pay me any amount of money to do ever. Kim our production assistant extraordinaire has the unenviable job of sorting all that mess out. God love her, we just have to make sure there’s a cold glass of white wine waiting for her at the end of the night and she’ll be fine.
Anyway, enjoy the gig whenever you get to see it. It’s a belter. Even if I do balls it up.
Graemo. (Drum Tech and Gong walloper)
Footnote:
When Graemo volunteered to write this blog he was somewhat dismayed to find that he wouldn’t be allowed to post his inane drivel (only joking Graemo) without it being passed first by a responsible adult. He cited his right to freedom of speech and likened my rule to that of a North Korean military dictator.
Well Graemo I liken your drumming to a crazed clockwork orang utang and here’s the proof folks.
