Hip-hop legend Common brings his positive sound to the Winter Dew Tour stop at Northstar-at-Tahoe, California, the Toyota Championships, for an unforgettable mountainside performance.

Common is a Grammy Award winner and multi-platinum selling recording artist who has collaborated with heavyweight hip-hop producers Kanye West, the Neptunes and many more. Expanding his talents beyond music, Common can also be seen acting in the films “American Gangster,” “Terminator: Salvation” and the upcoming “Justice League: Mortal” as the Green Lantern.

Professional snowboarder Keir Dillon sits down with Common to discuss his latest record, action sports and his acting ambitions. In addition to Keir’s interview, Common gives a spirited performance of songs from his catalog of hits and also shows off his sharp freestyle skills.

Surely you’ve seen Lonnie Rashid Lynn hawking Zunes and Lincoln Navigators, getting his acting on in flicks like Wanted and American Gangster, and on tour performing selections from his eight albums. On December 9^th he drops his latest LP set of MP3s, Universal Mind Control, proving that having the skills can pay the bills.

Common: Working with Dilla I just learned that…that’s somebody that I felt was like all he knew was about making good music. I mean of course he wanted to make money but his love was with the music man. His mom told me he was walking around when he was three years old with 45’s on his wrist. The rapper Common wants to take hip-hop in a new direction, he says, and he has an unsuspecting ally -- President-elect Barack Obama.

Obama "is going to change hip-hop for the better," predicted the rapper, whose eighth album, "Universal Mind Control" (G.O.O.D. Music/Geffen), hits shelves Tuesday.

"I really do believe we as hip-hop artists pick up what's going on in the world and try to reflect that," he told CNN, outlining his belief that mainstream as well as so-called "conscious" rappers -- the more socially aware -- will pick up on what he sees as the more optimistic prospects of an Obama presidency. - CNN.com

Common Launches “THE CORNER” through the Common Ground Foundation | News

June 3, 2008 (San Francisco, CA) In an effort to encourage and inspire youth to read, the Common Ground Foundation has launched The Corner, a national online book club. This interactive platform provides youth across the country with an opportunity to discuss current reading selections, and fosters the development of critical thinking skills.

The Corner, provides an interactive way for students, ages 13-18, to learn about and discuss relevant reading materials. Our team works with a list of recommended books that convey messages of tolerance, compassion and non-violent expressions of achieving social justice.

Teens are able to follow along with the recommended book of the month, blog with other members about relevant topics and have the opportunity to participate in a live online chat with Common Ground Foundation staff. Celebrity artists will also be interviewed each month and talk about their favorite books and why reading is so important to them. Each year the Foundation will sponsor a national "Common Ground Challenge" for our book club members. Winners will have an opportunity to meet Common and their essay will be posted on The Common Ground Foundation website. The Foundation is also committed to provide a college scholarship as the first prize award. Through exposure and participation in educational endeavors, The Common Ground Foundation creates a positive atmosphere for learning and understanding.

Common has been selected for the American Library Association (ALA) READ Campaign poster.
