Seattle, Salt Lake & Denver

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the delay, the Internet is sometimes elusive when traveling the way we do.
So lets begin where we left off.
Seattle was nothing short of a love fest!! Old friends were in attendance, old tour mates were on hand for good story telling, and the audience reminded me of why we love playing intimate shows.
We met several kids after the show who were willing to wait a while. Among them were a nice couple from Canada who had danced to Stolen at their wedding, an artist who gave me a wonderful pencil drawing of SMG, and couple who remembered my Yankees cap from last time and gave me a Mariners cap to replace it (I’m still thinking it over!)
The best part of the show for me was the familiarity that I felt with the crowd. I may have met some, but certainly not all, of the audience before and it really felt like we were old friends.
Salt Lake City
My love affair with Salt Lake City continues. Even at the height of my nagging soar throat this crowd had me singing like it was my best day. Ok, I was there, maybe it sounded good, but not like it was my best day! But hey, it sounded pretty good for a guy who’s throat was on fire. I don’t think I was contagious so don’t blame me if you were in the front row and now you don’t feel so well! I had just been to SLC for a fest called The Jamboree about a month ago and it was a truly fun show on all levels. This gave me reason to have high hopes for this time around. The show was at a joint called At The Venue, which used to be called Bricks and is one of my favorite small clubs to play in the US. I was not disappointed. I am not sure what they put in the water in Salt Lake that makes the music scene so potent, but I want to bottle it. These kids have no reservations. They let you all the way into their hearts while you are there and you can’t help but let them into your own. So I gave all that I had, all that was left of me for that matter, to that crowd and they gave it right back. What a night.
Afterwards I met several folks who had stayed to visit including six sisters who had come to the show to celebrate one of their birthdays. A charming a cheery bunch, I would have loved to have visited with all night. Full of insightful comments and questions it was a pleasure to spend the time I did have with them (PS, yes I do write my own blog).
Denver
It could have been a tough night to be in Denver. One game down, and by show time one and a half games down to Boston in the World Series, we might have met with some disgruntled folk, but not these cats. They had a show to see to keep their minds off of the game!
I am not overstating this when I say that this was my favorite CO show that we have ever played. I can’t tell you what leads me to the expectations that I have of shows before they start, but I am too often refuted by the actual event when it comes to pass. I woke up thinking of how Denver has kind of eluded me in the past. I felt as if I had never really connected with a Denver audience the way I had been able to in so many other places. Who knows why this has been. I suppose the altitude and the effect it has on ones lungs is no small factor, but that would be too small an answer. If pressed I would have no real handle as to why. Last night changed that for me. I went out there without expectations but also with no hesitation and, Denver, I found you out there and you found me, and I think we may have fallen a little bit in love with each other over the course of the evening. I didn’t want to leave you. I kept adding songs until I had run so far over the allotted time that I feared the club might pull the power before the last song (they didn’t, nor did they threaten too). It felt good to be with you. It felt good to be healthy (healthier anyway!) again. It feels great to be able to look forward to being with you again soon. Thank you for bringing so much to the show, for singing so beautifully, for singing so well on the new songs, which you did louder than anyone else has yet to do. What a night to be in Denver.
Chris
