COSMIC VAN: Transmission 13 - Cleveland RocksPosted 10/19/2009 by CosmicVan Pulled into Ann Arbor late late on Tuesday night. After checking into a nearby hotel, I headed to the downtown area to see if there was anything cracking. I needed dinner and thought i might find some Wolfmother fans to say hi to. Although the charming, but sleepy town was pretty empty, some fans hollered at me while I was parking. Mike and Nick are big fans and they had walked with me four blocks towards my dinner spot before I realized that they were actually headed the wrong way. Great people in Ann Arbor. The next day I headed to downtown Ann Arbor and then to the Michigan Campus. That evening I headed to the Mike Doughty show on Main street and, again, met some people who came yelling up to the van at a stop light. I hooked them up with some merch. The guys were so excited they insisted I stop in at a place called O'Malley's to meet their wives. I did and we had a blast telling stories from the road. Again, great people in Ann Arbor (it's nothing like Detroit) But couldn't stay. Had to move on that night, headed for Cleveland.
Oh, Cleveland. "The Cleve" as I call it. On the way there we met Kyle, Amanda and Mitch at a gas station in Elyria. I got out of the van and Mitch goes, "aren't you supposed to be in Cleveland?" and I'm like "what are you, my manager?". Kidding - I was so impressed with his knowledge of the van touring I told them I'd put them on the web site immediately. You can see them pictured with the caption "superfans in elyria". Then, in Cleveland - Metallica was playing and the fans were PUMPED. We got their super early to try to catch some of the tailgate fun. The show was in downtown and it was raining, so a traditional tailgate was out. But the nearest pub was so packed with fans that it was clearly the substitute. We posted up near the venue and caught the Wolfmother fans as they were coming and going. As always, we met a lot of great fans, but one stood out. Cameron had her mom drive around for two hours around Cleveland looking for the van. By the time they found us she was about out of breath. Not sure if it was from running or excitement, but I choose to think of it as excitement. She came with a Wolfmother t-shirt on, but we got her a new one. She said if we would "put her on the transmission report it would be, like, unbelievable". So, as promised Cameron, here you are. The superfan award goes to you... Digg | Del.icio.us | Facebook |
