It was a fall night, and Metallica was in the air. There was a steady stream of metalheads driving into town and we got a lot of shout outs. Before we headed to the Metallica the show we tried to get to the 17th St Farmer's Market for Shocktoberfest. Unfortunately, the venue changed, and nobody told us. Cosmic van fail. We stopped into a local coffee shop for directions and they'd never even heard of 17th St. So, yeah. We got a great tour of the awesome UVA campus but we never made it to Shocktoberfest (if it exists...). Our apologies to anyone who went driving around based off of our tweets. The show was at John Paul Jones arena, which is impressive all by itself. Granted, he's a rock and roll legend, but wow... they named a college venue after the guy. So we met some great fans as usual and had a great time. Gotta go now, cause I promised like ten people that I'd send them their group photo. Peace!

Our buddies over at Threadless have released this epic "It Would Have Been Cooler As A Van" tee- very near and dear to our hearts. Personally, we think that everything would have been cooler as a van. Don't you?
It was another rainy night as we made our way though Washington D.C. to the Verizon center for the AC/DC concert. It had been a while since I drove in Washington, so I was pretty excited. Usually, the drive is a nightmare, but this time we added the rain and a 78 Volkswagon Camper to the mix, making it even more interesting. We still had a good time and got to meet some great fans. A family from Philadelphia drove down to catch the van since they were going to be gone during our Philly stop. We were very honored and they were excited about getting some awesome Wolfmother gear. We also ran into Gary from Jerrabomberra. I had such a hard time spelling the name of the city that I had to mention it in the blog. With the weather and threat of wicked traffic, we decided to stay outside of Washington, before we made our way to Charlottesville. Onward, through the fog!
The 6th episode in Transmissions From The Cosmic Egg beams out into the stratosphere this week, with a look behind the curtain at Wolfmother's return to the live stage. Having taken a solid break from touring during the making of Cosmic Egg, the band are back into the swing of things on the live front, and we take a look at the backstage shenanigans and pre-match warm up rituals whilst getting a deeper look into singer Andrew Stockdale's approach to playing in front of 80,000 Germans.

Pulled into Ann Arbor late late on Tuesday night. After checking into a nearby hotel, I headed to the downtown area to see if there was anything cracking. I needed dinner and thought i might find some Wolfmother fans to say hi to. Although the charming, but sleepy town was pretty empty, some fans hollered at me while I was parking. Mike and Nick are big fans and they had walked with me four blocks towards my dinner spot before I realized that they were actually headed the wrong way. Great people in Ann Arbor. The next day I headed to downtown Ann Arbor and then to the Michigan Campus. That evening I headed to the Mike Doughty show on Main street and, again, met some people who came yelling up to the van at a stop light. I hooked them up with some merch. The guys were so excited they insisted I stop in at a place called O'Malley's to meet their wives. I did and we had a blast telling stories from the road. Again, great people in Ann Arbor (it's nothing like Detroit) But couldn't stay. Had to move on that night, headed for Cleveland.
Oh, Cleveland. "The Cleve" as I call it. On the way there we met Kyle, Amanda and Mitch at a gas station in Elyria. I got out of the van and Mitch goes, "aren't you supposed to be in Cleveland?" and I'm like "what are you, my manager?". Kidding - I was so impressed with his knowledge of the van touring I told them I'd put them on the web site immediately. You can see them pictured with the caption "superfans in elyria". Then, in Cleveland - Metallica was playing and the fans were PUMPED. We got their super early to try to catch some of the tailgate fun. The show was in downtown and it was raining, so a traditional tailgate was out. But the nearest pub was so packed with fans that it was clearly the substitute. We posted up near the venue and caught the Wolfmother fans as they were coming and going. As always, we met a lot of great fans, but one stood out. Cameron had her mom drive around for two hours around Cleveland looking for the van. By the time they found us she was about out of breath. Not sure if it was from running or excitement, but I choose to think of it as excitement. She came with a Wolfmother t-shirt on, but we got her a new one. She said if we would "put her on the transmission report it would be, like, unbelievable". So, as promised Cameron, here you are. The superfan award goes to you...
We started our night in Chicago by popping over to Reckless Records on Broadway. I'm actually over at Argo Tea, across the street as I'm writing, enjoying the best tea in Chicago. After hitting up Reckless we went over to Delilahs (a solid local pub near by) and then over to the Metro. It was 34 degrees with Chicago wind, but we still managed to find ourselves some Wolfmother fans. Unfortunately, even a cosmic van needs service, so we had to get it to the shop. By this point in the trip, we've covered 13 states, hit 10 cities and traveled a staggering 4,300 miles. Turns out no vehicle can keep that pace forever. Well, off to the mechanic. We'll update you from Ann Arbor in the next couple of days. Peace!
You’ve been taunted with the teaser, now prepare your eyes for the kaleidoscopic visual feast that is the “New Moon Rising” video.
An onslaught of colour, effects and cut up animation, the “New Moon Rising” video was prepared by New Zealand directors Special Problems, and is an arresting display of psychedelic voodoo and the perfect jump off point into the world of the new record, Cosmic Egg.
The worldwide online premier of “New Moon Rising” will come courtesy of our friends at Pitchfork.com
We pulled into Champaign, Illinois for the University of Illinois homecoming weekend. The whole town was full of orange-wearing happy midwestern families. If you've been following the blog, you know that I'm from the midwest myself, so if felt a lot like home. Except for the weather...32 degrees. Ouch. We headed down to the campus strip- Green Street was surprisingly cool. Found out there are a lot of Wolfmother fans in Champaign. They were hollering, so, of course we hooked them up with some t-shirts and posters. The buttons are also a big hit for the hoodie-wearing areas of the country. The next morning we headed to Memorial Stadium for the homecoming football game against Michigan State. You'll notice that the fans were very excited after tailgating extremely early in the morning. Unfortunately, Illinois got stomped. After the game we cruised around through the crowd just to show off the van. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay long. Riot Fest was starting in Chicago and we had to get up there to spread the Wolfmother love!
Last night we drove out to Columbia Missouri for the Missouri Tiger's home game against Nebraska Cornhuskers. Dylan and I had some great fun tailgating with fans from both teams. On occasion they were tailgating together. A mixed group. Very taboo. But we didn't even get to set up our tailgate before we had people hitting up the van for Wolfmother gear. Unfortunately, it was pouring. And I'm not talking about rain. I'm talking about a flash flood warning was in effect. You'll notice in the photos that Dylan and I have on Mizzou rain gear. It looks like we got adopted. After the game, started we headed to a local Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the game and warm up, cause we were soaked to the knees. Unfortunately Missouri's defense ran out of gas and the Cornhuskers rallied for 27 points in the fourth quarter, stealing the win from our new tailgating friends. But hey, I'm from Kansas. What do I care?
