Ive been an AFI fan for more that 10 years and seen them upwards of about 20 times live front row, screaming along every lyric. I think that earns me the title of a true fan...Anyways Ive been avoiding this whole crash love disaster (refraining from even hearing the single) all year. I stuck by AFI when they got blasted for not being punk anymore (because they matured musically and lyrically) I stuck by even in 06 for decemberunderground when people criticized AFI for "losing thier dark element" (because they infused thier electronic influences while maintaining thier integrity) but this... this is just sad. I agree with all the other comments like this. The single "medicate" was something Id expect from a new band of 20 year olds... the lyrics dont even measure up to the shadow of afi's past poetry. I will always have a special place in my heart for afi- they helped me through growing up and kept me alive at times while helping me find my identity- one that they dont appeal to AT ALL anymore. Wish I knew if this was really the crap they want to put out or if the money hot topic makes them is too much to resist... I have a feeling its the latter because these are real artist throwing thier talent away on a plastic generation. really sad, I cant say I have a favorite band anymore. Like someone said, maybe a forthcoming more natural afi album will mean redemption- till then Im not listening to this ....
The current status of a band that has been there for me through my life experiences
First off, I thoroughly enjoy Crash Love-ever since the early myspace release. I cannot believe that this album has been made-and that with my own lifetime-I feel that I have been a part of the maturity and development of this band. I have been a part of the fire ever since I saw you guys in '97 with the Offspring and L7 at the Austin Music Hall. That day changed my life forever-and gave me a band that would be on the top of my list (and heart) from that day on. You guys are the best-and I've met you a couple of times "in time" in your appearances in Texas. You have all been so kind to me and nothing short of a complete inspiration.
I cannot believe that I see these post by my fellow hardcore fans, punk fans, from back in the day-talking trash like AFI has not come up from nothing-a band that truly represents hard work, respect, and passion...and a truly authentic success in music. Please do not get discouraged from the disenchanting rederict-you guys have worked so damn hard, and I hope that this record brings you so much success and personal fulfillment-you have given that to "me" with your music, so know that you deserve it. For those that are new fans "and those who stand beyond and through all time", you are in for a ride-AFI is the real thing-and their music is real "MUSIC". Through our bleeding, we are one.
I'm sorry but despite being a true AFI fan from answer that and stay fashionable to now i can't say i'll buy the new album, this is a joke man. seriously, when did the fans say your old style was boring and needed to be scrapped? never unless it was some fucking stupid little 12 year old. I don't care what anybody says, you're losing what makes you, you and because of that, you'll lose fans. i heard the album, not a fucking thing on that album even resembles AFI. Make an album that reminds us of why we listened to AFI when we were younger, not one that is just trying to make money with mediocrity at it's core. Decemberunderground was somewhat of a departure but compared to this it might as well be your best next to Sing the sorrow or black sails in the sunset. even then 06's album alone was a disappointment. this is a disaster. anyone thinking i want another sing the sorrow, i don't. just a return to form for this band falling from grace. even the concert experience is different. parts that would normally feature davey's signature shouts on older songs, are now painful sounding whines.I hate saying all this shit, but it's true. truth hurts, so do something about it. let's hear news of the next album being a return to your roots.nothing personal, Davey I just don't want to see your fanbase shrink.
I love your energy. First time like four years ago when I heard your song I was like WOW! :O You guys are just something so special and amazing. I like your old and new music. And I reeaally want you to come in Finland if not Finland maybe in Swedish like you were there couple years ago but I wasn`t there : ( Now im ready to pay what ever it takes to get in to your gig.
I love you guys. You´re the first and my only fav band and love. I love your music and i love you as the way you are guys. Dont drink or smoke and thats awesome. Most of rockers drinks and use drugs. You´re very good people and we all are proud of you and WE HERE IN FINLAND WANT YOU TO COME HERE !!!!!!!!! LOVE YAAA!!1
I knew this would be my fave song as soon as I heard it.... but the dancing scares the shit out of me... ok thats a bit dramatic, but it is quite messy.. Maybe clean up the dance moves a bit... I dont want to Davey fall off the stage at the concert...
The video turned out amazing. Best video so far can't wait to see how you guys will top it! haha Everything you guys do is amazing. Davey, lovin' the gold shoes! Keep it up guys!
are u serious? no body over 14 can take this serious ... how old are you? This Style and behavior is akward ... even more than the 06 releases ... grow up again ... get back to the roots or stay one of many ... nothing special any more sorry ... the new LP is ok, but not as good as the 90´s records. well, time to retire to stay in good memory.
I'm NOT trying very hard to be here... 'cause i like it
Guys you make me wonder, your new album is different, anyway it sounds great, but frankly speaking i think the single #1 must be "I'm trying very hard to be here". Also, in my opinion the song "We've got the knife" from deluxe edition can be very popular if you decide to make a new video for it.
As for "Medicate" - the solo is fantastic. Jade, you're the coolest. Davey, your hair... Perfecto! Also as for the video - i like "blaqk & white & gold mode".
at first, i thought... "Mn, it's different. I don't like it. /grumpy face" heh!
but, of course, i was being obtuse. i listened and watched further, and it IS different, but it isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination.
fresh and new and tastes so good. /grin
the video, the song, the look, lovely. lovely.
I just saw you guys at The Webster Theater in Hartford CT. My girlfriend loves you guys but I had never seen you before and wasn't really into the music. But when you guys came on stage I became an instant fan. The whole vibe and performance was amazing. I loved that you guys took the time to work on your stage show as much as you did your music. I give the whole band an A+ in showmanship.
The video is great and I love your hair
Can AFI get any hotter? LOL Davey's hot no matter what he looks like... I love the new pompadour!
I'm getting into the new album... the songs grow on me the more I listen to them.
you guys have blossomed so well from the time when you started till now your styles have become quite sophisticated too i do like the new cd very much and but davey i miss your hair lol.
