Hip Hop pretty much died for me 6 years ago back in middle school. It was all the same, still is. Occasionally there is the occasionally sound that i groove too but i have been mainly listening to punk rock for 4 years. Except for the occasional one song from some artist, i stayed away from hip hop like a fat guy from a scale. Not too mention that i hate 99% of the music videos i have seen.
The Zune commercial a month or so back sparked my interested in Common but it wasn't until now that i heard a full song by him. Universal Mind Control is an amazing beat, very different from what i been hearing even by the undergrounds that go to my art college. Also the lyrics are on lock, they flow perfectly with track, not slowing it down and still strong enough to hear it perfectly. Also the music video was very good and seemed to fit well with the music.
Common for the love of god don't become a sellout or any of that bad stuff that happens when you get famous. Stay true to your roots. This is beauty, this is funk.
