Tom Delonge on AVA and their new album. The resulting tracks, which DeLonge describes as "cinematic," are a collection of overblown guitars and echoey vocals. Each song comes in at more than four minutes, which is almost double the length of most blink tunes. The themes here are deeper, too. Opener "Valkyrie Missile" -- which DeLonge explains was named after a nuclear warhead-wielding missile in the Cold War -- talks about destruction leading to something beautiful (the end of blink-182 making way for Angels). "Distraction" tells the story of finding love in the midst of war, and "A Little's Enough" is a daydream about God fixing the entire world in a day.

"Whereas Blink-182 was all about instant gratification with heart-racing, immediate pop tunes, Angels is more about the delayed pay-off, with songs that slowly build into sweeping crescendos with little emphasis on economy.
Lyrically, DeLonge no longer sings of the perils of teen romance like he once did almost exclusively. Instead, he pens more galvanized anthems about overcoming this obstacle or that."

"It's a rarity when a big band's post project becomes better than the original unit, [but] it does happen... The crowd went absolutely nuts... A Little Is Enough" was the best of the lot, with power, depth and conviction. "

"Taking the name Angels & Airwaves and creating a logo that looked like the letters "A-V-A," (DeLonge's daughter is named Ava), they started making music influenced by their heroes...Most important, Angels and Airwaves agreed to experiment and evolve."<br>Beaver County Times (Nov. 13 2006)

"Onstage, DeLonge preached an infectious message of positive mental attitude and believing in oneself while he marched, gadded and shuffled about the stage with a dance style that was a combination of Jack Sparrow, cabaret singer and Prince.
Grinning ear to ear, the former pop-punk pioneer seemed to channel the spirit of the next generation's Bono or Sting, a perfect complement to the powerful, bloated and catchy rock that he gave the crowd of young Blink fans in attendance."

"The album is quite a deviation from DeLonge's or any of the band members' previous work. It brings to mind more of an 80's sound, which has proved to be timeless. The production, thanks to Delonge and ex-Nine Inch Nails bassist/A Perfect Circle guitarist Danny Lohner, gives the album a dynamic arena rock sound. Many moments are reminiscent of classic bands such as U2, The Cure, and Pink Floyd, while still maintaining DeLonge's distinguished vocals. Imagine those aforementioned bands mixed with Boxcar Racer and Blink-182's last eponymous album. While the latter seemed to have scattered sounds and influences throughout (which may have attributed to Blink's hiatus), We Don't Need To Whisper flows solidly together as one piece, making it a stronger and thus superior album in my opinion."
